HMS Software Releases Major Uprade to its Popular Timekeeping System TimeControl&red;
MONTREAL - October 5th, 1999 - HMS Software releases TimeControl 3, a significant upgrade to TimeControl, its enterprise timekeeping system for project environments. TimeControl 3 includes enhancements to the existing functionality of the system as well as several new features.
Enhancements to existing functionality
Links to Project Management
The Link to Project Management feature has been rewritten to better support multi-project use and to better manage situations where activity identification may have been changed from previous project versions. The new link module is also much faster. It's interface allows the percent complete calculation in the project schedule to automatically open or close charge codes in TimeControl. In addition, milestone tasks can now be identified and transferring is optional.
TimeControl's filter dialog now allows the complete SQL statement to be viewed on a second tab. Also, the SQL statement can be written directly. Much more complex statements can now be part of the filter mechanism than when they were generated from the menu-driven interface. Expert users are now able to define a filter that matches any data condition and use tables that are outside of the TimeControl database.
Split Posting Reports
Split Posting is designed to report or export data for timesheets that are incomplete, allowing data to be trapped mid-week for time-sensitive operations such as end-of-month billing. New reports and export formats in TimeControl 3 have been pre-prepared to deliver this mid-week information. Users can now select a cut-off date for the report or export to trap the required data.
TimeControl's menus are now completely customizable. Administrators can change the names of menus or translate them as required. Additional commands can be added to the menu and new commands can be executable files, SQL statements or stored SQL procedures. Once added, as with any other menu item, the new menu items become available to TimeControl's User Profiles for security.
Support for Informix
TimeControl now supports the Informix client/server database environment. TimeControl data can be stored directly into an Informix database, adding Informix to a list of database support that already includes Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, InterBase, FoxPro and Paradox.
Support for P3 Subprojects
In this latest version of TimeControl, subprojects within P3 can be identified directly. For some users this is critical as their organization of projects in P3 is done in one large file. Now, these subprojects can be imported and linked back to P3 directly as though they were individual project files.
Support for P3e™ and TeamPlay™
TimeControl 3 includes new links to Primavera Project Planner for the Enterprise (P3e) and TeamPlay. Users will find the direct data-to-data link very efficient due to the common data connection technology used by both TimeControl and Primavera P3e and TeamPlay.
All New Java Interface
TimeControl includes both a Windows and Java timesheet interface. In version 3.2, the Java interface has been completely rewritten thus eliminating the need for the Java plug-in. This significant rewrite increases performance of the Java timesheet by an order of magnitude and, much more importantly, reduces the software needed to download or install at the client from 9 megabytes to only 180 kilobytes. Preparation of the individual client stations is not required by plug-in or anything else, making the configuration management of this new interface faster and easier to use.
In addition, the Java interface has been re-written to support a much wider range of hardware and browser platforms, including the Apple Macintosh, Sun Solaris and most versions of Netscape and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
TimeControl 3 is now shipping. Clients with existing TimeControl maintenance plans will receive their 3.2 upgrade via email. Clients with a current maintenance plan, receive this new version free of charge. TimeControl pricing is based on volume. For example: a 100-user license of TimeControl is priced at $10,000.
TimeControl was originally released in 1994. It was immediately successful in the project management sector and today is recognized not only as a project management solution, but also as an enterprise timesheet solution in use by companies worldwide. TimeControl is designed as a multipurpose timesheet able to serve the needs of both Finance and Project Management simultaneously. It includes features such as a multi-browser, multi-device interface, a PC and mobile interface, vacation approvals, executive dashboards, extensive approval functionality, flexible reporting and links to project management and corporate systems which makes the timesheet product ideally suited for integration with existing systems in any organization. TimeControl's flexibility allows it to be deployed for use as a time and attendance, time and billing, project tracking and flex-time system.
