How much time should I spend on my timesheet each week?
What a great question. Our rule of thumb is that you should not spend more than 1% of your time tracking your time. So let's put that in perspective. If you work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, then we're talking about spending no more than 24 minutes per week or about 5 minutes per day doing your time tracking.
Now that we've said that, there are always exceptions. The important thing to think about is: What is the value of this information? In some circumstances, managing your tasks hour by hour will make sense because the data is incredibly valuable. Most organizations will expect an improvement of 3%-5% by implementing a timesheet system and if that can be achieved by spending 1% of your time per week, it's a good return on investment.
